New tests of Radio Spaceshuttle

Good morning--- Radio Spaceshuttle has made lots of calculation (=drinked few beers), more massive investigations (=much more beeeeer, hic)... and has got strange results....

1. We are working to have more radio propagation tests and have learned that our 19mb frequency is quite good in many cases for longer skips... Mosts tests might be realized on SSB mode

2. But wishing we can have few transmissions also a bit higher bands (during May and June)... That means perhaps tests on 15 or 16 mb (17,5 or 19 MHz area) .... So we are building a new antenna somewhere of these areas.

3. Propagation also changes, so results are different in May and in June.

4.Our wish is to reach better results in Oceanian area- main target Australia, but also in all Far-East area. (Japan and New-Zealand seems to be a challenge to us that time, but would like to have listeners also there, please!). So more activity from listeners in whole Far-East area and ALL COUNTRIES there is wanted- Please tell us if you can try to listen R Spaceshuttle.

5.We did see we might have propagation also in different parts of AFRICA in some times. But now I would like to knnow if there is any listeners to try us? (In different parts of The continent) Please tell me if you are interested try to listen us in there?

6.We have find best times to reach South and Central-American areas as well, but mostly our signal will be quite weak in there. (Best chances might be June than on May). But wishing also know persons who are willing try to listen us also in that area!

7. North-America might be even more challenge during these months to us... We studied that there might be some hours when it might be wotrth of try WESTERN and SOUTHERN parts of USA.... So, if you are that area, please give us info if you could try our signals in there.

8. All remarks of Europe (especially it's eastern side and south), Meditterranean area are of cource ALWAYS very wanted! Tell your possibilieties to try and report our tests, please!

9. Our near area service shall return as well soon, perhaps on 48mb, but might be 41 mb as well. (And to 31 mb ocassional transmissions). So, please drop few lines of your interests to our e-mail spaceshuttleradio@yahoo.com , please!

Best greetings,
Dick and test-comity of Radio Spaceshuttle

PS. We shall send our test plans for your area after your contacts. Our motto isd "Please tell your friend that Radio Spaceshuttle is back on air again"

27th April 2013 - Hi, a test with our old frequency 15880 kHz USB starting soon: 05:30-07:00 UTC towards NORTH-AFRICA, SOUTHERNN EUROPE AND NEAR-EAST

AIR Barmer testing new 20 KW tx on 1458 kHz

Early this morning from 1910 UTC (mid night 0040 IST), while tuning across the MW band I heard Hindi songs continuously on 1458 kHz without any announcements for many hours.

Two AIR stations are using this freq viz Bhagalpur & Barmer. Today morning when I contacted AIR Bhagalpur they informed it was not their station. However AIR Barmer in Rajasthan confirmed that it was their station testing new 20 kW transmitter !

Transmission to Cuba Continue Despite Fire

Martí Radio, TV and Web Transmissions to Cuba Continue After Newsroom Fire

Miami, FL, April 22, 2013 - U.S. government broadcasts to Cuba continued Monday after a trashcan fire forced the temporary evacuation of the headquarters of the Office of Cuba Broadcasting in Miami Sunday afternoon.

The building housing Radio and Television Martí and the Martinoticias.com website, on NW 77th Avenue in Miami, sustained damage due to an accidental fire caused by a lighted cigarette left in a container in a designated smoking area outside the building. Heat from the blaze caused windows to break in the Martí newsroom. Smoke entered the building and automatically set off building sprinklers. No one was injured.

"We are grateful to the firefighters and other officials who responded so quickly to the situation," said Carlos García Pérez, Director of the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (OCB). "We are also grateful to our dedicated team of federal employees and contractors, who ensured that programming continued and who today are working in cramped conditions on broadcasts for Cuba while the damage is being repaired."

In Miami, representatives of the OCB and the General Services Administration are working with the building's landlord to mitigate the fire damage and verify air quality safety. They say it could be a week or more before employees can return to the central newsroom, which sustained most of the damage.

The disruption comes at a busy time for Martí journalists. They are mobilizing for live coverage Tuesday morning from Brussels of the long-delayed presentation of the European Parliament's Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to "The Ladies in White," an opposition movement in Cuba consisting of wives and other female supporters of jailed dissidents. The Prize was awarded in 2005, but the Cuban government denied the women the right to receive the award. Representatives of the group are traveling to Brussels this week, the first time many have been allowed outside of Cuba.

"In the absence of a free press in Cuba, Radio and TV Martí and martinoticias.com report on stories Cuban media does not cover," García Pérez said. "The Martis' coverage of issues relevant to the daily lives of Cubans, including human rights, will continue."

Radio Martí is available throughout much of Cuba on 1080 AM and Radio Caracol on 1260 AM. TV Martí is available in Cuba on Channels 13 and 20 as well as Mega TV through the Direct TV satellite. Aside from the usual Internet access, Martinoticias is available through proxy sites and via file sharing on the island.

The coming radio wave

When will we hear a different tune on radio? Within the next one year, if Uday Varma, secretary at the ministry of information and broadcasting, is to be believed. He says that the request for proposals for the auctioneer for FM radio's third phase, which will see 839 stations being auctioned, is ready. He reckons that the auction itself should take place in the next couple of months and the new stations should be operational

Samsung explains why Galaxy S4 doesn't come with FM radio

Samsung Galaxy S4 was unveiled by the company on 14 March. While the phone boasts high-end specs like a 5-inch full-HD screen with 441 pixels per inch, a 1.6GHz Exynos octa-core processor in some regions and a 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor in others, and 2GB of RAM, it received criticism in some quarters for missing out on a rather basic feature : FM radio.

Indian researchers claim to have developed "world's smallest antenna"

Researchers Sunday claimed to have invented the world's smallest super compact ultra-wideband (UWB) planar antenna that can find application in homes and the military among other domains.

Academician Professor Srikanta Pal, who is with the Birla Institute of Technology in Mesra, and his research scholar Mrinmoy Chakraborty have developed the antenna.

"Our antenna is the world's smallest at 14 mm X 11 mm, with much more than a 10:1 bandwidth," Chakraborty, a PhD student with BIT-Mesra, said.

DBS 15 now available

NEW SURVEY AVAILABLE:
DOMESTIC BROADCASTING SURVEY 15 (DBS-15), April 2013
edited by DSWCI Chairman, Anker Petersen.
ISSN 1399-8218

The 56 years old DSWCI which counts experienced DX-ers in 29 countries all over the world as members, has just issued the 15 th Edition of its annual Domestic Broadcasting Survey. This survey is divided into three parts:

Part 1 : The 41st edition of the Tropical Bands Survey covering all ACTIVE broadcasting stations on 2300 - 5700 kHz, including clandestines.
Part 2 : Domestic stations on international shortwave bands above 5700 kHz broadcasting to a domestic audience.
Part 3 : Deleted frequencies between 2 and 30 MHz which have not been reported heard during the past five years, but may reappear.

This new Survey is based upon monitoring by our members, many official sources and DX-bulletins. A13 schedules are included when available. In order to make the DBS reliable, our own monitors around the world have checked throughout the period April 2012 – March 2013, if each of the 640 station frequencies is on the air.

ACTIVE stations are marked with an A ("Regular"), B ("Irregular") or C ("Sporadic") in the list. D means "Likely inactive". A unique feature is the right column called "Last log". It shows the last month and year before DBS deadline on March 31, 2013 when the particular station was reported logged by a DX-er somewhere in the world. This is another way of indicating the current audibility of the station.
To avoid inactive stations in this DBS, most frequencies which have not been heard during the past year, have been deleted and are moved to Part 3. No other frequency list has this feature !

Other useful features for easy identification (ID) are the parallel frequencies and reference to Station ID slogans.

Reviews can be found on www.dswci.org
All buyers of DBS-15 will get a username and password to the monthly updates on the tropical bands published as " Tropical Bands Monitor " on our website. The similar, historical data from 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 are available to anybody at www.dswci.org/tbm

The 24 pages A-4 size DBS-15 is available by e-mail as pdf-format (about 400 kB). A limited number is also available printed on paper.

Tony Hall's biggest test as BBC director general is to create a digital future

Most of the comment, inevitably perhaps, that has attended new BBC director general Tony Hall's first week in the job has been about the immediate issues that he faces. Rebuilding confidence internally amongst staff, let alone externally amongst the rest of us is no small task in the post-Entwistle, post-Savile crisis world.
